Tommy's 1st Soccer Game

Tommy had his first game last Saturday. He was so cute and so good!

Emergency Preparedness

We had a fire drill at our house. We wanted the kids to be prepared in case we experience an emergency. We did this in our last house and it was fun and eye opening. So, we thought we would do it here. We opened the window, lowered the ladder, and one by one the kids came down. I was at the bottom to help and Paul was at the top. After everyone had a turn, we pulled the ladder up and saw this friendly guy right there outside the window!!

These pictures don't do it justice! This thing was huge and scary!

Needless to say, we won't e having anymore drills out that window without checking for spiders first!

Did somebody say flood gates?

I'm sure you heard on the news about the flooding in Georgia. We are in Georgia! We had flooding all around us, luckily we live on a hill and were not flooded.We had lots of rain and water, but it mostly stayed outside.

Not great pictures, but this is what it looked like for a few days. I think these were taken at like 2 in the afternoon! It was dark and stormy. School was canceled and everything!

While we were in Utah for my sister's wedding, Emma and Miriam played a lot. Emma's hair kept getting in her face. Instead of pulling it up, she decided to just cut it off.

The Road Not Taken

In case anyone doesn't know where the road not taken lies, it is in the middle of Texas. Specifically, it's the road that lies between the Carlsbad Caverns and I-20. 5 hours of nothingness. Just heat and bugs. I think I claimed that Georgia was the bug capital of the world, but I forgot about Texas. Getting gas along this untraveled road, I was attacked by a whole slew of nasty bugs along with the insufferable heat...oh, and it was like 1 am. So why would I subject myself and my family to such torment? Simple: we went to the Grand Canyon and the Carlsbad Caverns on the way out to Georgia (yeah, I know that this blog should probably have come before the last one, but I'm a little scatterbrained. That's the way I roll).
Here are some highlights from the trip across the country.

From the Grand Canyon we moved on to the Carlsbad Caverns. Liam, Silje, and Emma are awed by the grandeur of the caves (and maybe somewhat spooked by something).

All in it was a great trip. We had a blast, made some memories, and survived Texas.

Peachtree Living

Paul here. This is my first post ever!

As implied by the title of the post, I am coming to you from the land of peach trees (and streets, neighborhoods, and cities named "peachtree"). The Ellison family has just gone southern. We have officially moved to the ATL (though I will NEVER convert to being a Braves fan).

For those of you who don't know (and that's probably everyone who reads the blog to keep up with our comings and goings), I have taken a job with Altea Therapeutics in Atlanta, GA and we have moved to Lilburn, a suburb about 45 minutes North East of downtown.

Some impressions of Atlanta:

Atlanta is HUGE...but not really

Coming from Salt Lake City, Utah (metro population of 1.1 million people), Atlanta (metro population of 5.3 million people) seemed like it would be quite overwelming. However with multiple freeways averaging 5 or 6 lanes and most people apparently traveling in the opposite direction as my commute, it doesn't feel any more crowded on the freeway than in Utah (other than the 1 mile road to the freeway that can take 30mins if I leave when the coke worldwide headquarters employees get off work).

There is no such thing as a "mature tree" in Utah.

The trees in our backyard here are about 50ft tall. And there are much taller trees all around. I look out the upper windows in our 2-story living room and still see trees going up and up. It's amazing.

Utah is quite green...in a brown sort of way.

This is something that I recalled when I first moved back to Utah from Rio de Janeiro, Brasil. Here, freeways are lined by 50ft tall trees (and taller). Vines and bushes hang onto the freeway in sections. Everything is green. It helps that Atlanta gets more annual rainfall than Seattle does.

Atlanta must be the bug capital of the world. Seriously.

In the 4 weeks that we have been in Atlanta I have seen my first ever scorpion (in our bedroom), my first ever praying mantis (on my garbage can), the longest and densest trail of ants ever, fire flies (which I have seen in Washington DC at Lizzie's place), beetles are everywhere, spiders too. Tommy shrieks a lot when he finds HUGE spiders (they are about 1mm in diameter).

We are happy to be living among the peach trees.

We are so pleased to finally announce the arrival of Baby Liam! He is so cute! His big sisters and brother love him so much! He is a sweet baby! He is doing well and we are home. Some of the pictures are a little dark, sorry. We are so happy to have him here! He was born on Monday, May 19th. He was 8 lbs. 2.6 oz. He was 19.5 inches long. He was born at 12:58 p.m. He was posterior and the cord was around his neck. The doctor vacuumed him out, unwrapped the cord and he was fine! He is healthy and happy. (after the second epidural attempt finally worked, his mom was healthy and happy as well!)

Tommy's Pirate Adventure

Tommy loves to run. Sometimes his feet move faster than the rest of him. Sometimes he falls. Sometimes he falls face first on the sidewalk while on a pirate treasure hunt. Luckily I was home and they called me to come pick him up in the car so they didn't have to walk him home with his face bleeding! He had a big scab on his nose and right under his nose on his lip. He also had a scuff and bruise on his forehead. He has since picked the scab off and is healing nicely!

I was on the computer doing something and Tommy told me he was "seepy". I told him to go lay down on his bed and I would come tuck him in in a minute. I didn't think he would, I thought he would go play. A few minutes later it got really quiet and I went to investigate. This is what I found. He was reading The Friend and fell asleep leaning on his bed/mattress. (We are moving things around to make room for Liam, so he currently doesn't have a bed frame, just a mattress on the floor.)

We went on a family trip to Birch Bay, Washington. We went to Lynden, a little Dutch town. It was fun. Cold, but fun.

We also ventured up into Vancouver. These are pictures from the Capilano Suspension Bridge. You may be thinking, "Is she crazy?!? Taking three little kids across a bridge that is suspended above a deep ravine with jagged rocks and a river at the bottom, while she is pregnant?!?" The answer is yes. I am crazy. But it was a lot of fun.

Tommy is TWO!

Tommy is two! And he knows it! He loved opening his presents and all the attention he received! Apparently, two is the year of the Beep! Beep! because every present was a car of some sort! (he did get an airplane, but it has wheels and to him, makes the same sound as a car!) He was in little boy heaven! He has been playing with his new beeps non-stop and when he goes to bed, he checks on them and asks where they are. He wants to know why he can't sleep with all of them! When he wakes up in the morning the first thing he asks is, "Where a beep, beep, Ma?" It is so cute! The top pictures are the after party. Tommy and Daddy crashed on the floor and took a little nap! It was a fun day!

Tis the Season for Recitals

Silje has been recitaling up a storm! (I'm pretty sure that isn't a word, but I'm using it anyway!) On the night of the dance recital, she also had a violin recital and she and Emma sang at the Relief Society Christmas Party in our ward. She has since had two more violin recitals and one more to go! (the last one is in a church, so no more pictures!) She is getting quite good at the violin and really enjoys playing.

We finally got snow! It didn't seem time to get ready for Christmas without any snow! We don't have any hills, so we built one in our backyard so we could slid down! It was a lot of fun! Tommy was ok with it, until he sank! He was walking on top, but then he hit a soft spot and sank down past his knees!

I'm a little slow in getting our pictures up, but here they are. In the morning, we ran over to my parents house because David, Erin, and Johnny were there. We hadn't seen Johnny yet, so we went over and saw him. Sooooo cute!

Then we went over to Paul's grandma's house for dinner. The kids had so much fun running and playing with Isabelle. We missed Saskia (and of course Jon and Anna), but it was so much fun to get together! Tommy especially liked finding the horse's nose!

My First Nephew!!

My first nephew was born on November 2nd. I haven't seen him yet, but am very excited to do so! The kids are excited to have a cousin that lives in the same state! So, here are some cute pictures of little Johnny!

A Day at the Zoo

My sister, Kaycie, wanted to see the white alligator before he left the zoo. So, we went and saw it again. It is usually just floating in the water, but this time, it was right by the glass!

We also saw a tiger pacing right next to the glass. Not a great picture, but the kids loved it!

Halloween Preview

Tommy tried on his bat costume and wouldn't take it off. Something else he won't take off, his car slippers. He yells, "Go! Go!" at them then runs around saying, "Vrooommm! Vrrooooommmmm! BEEP! BEEP!" It's pretty darn cute!

Snowy Conference Weekend

We didn't get much snow, so we drove up the canyon to play!

Emma fell asleep in the car and missed out, but Silje and Tommy had fun throwing snowballs and playing in the snow with Dad.

Conference Bingo

To keep the kids quiet (and possibly listening) I make them Bingo cards. They get candy to put on each square and then they can eat it when they fill the whole thing in. Tommy started eating his and then put the sticky candy on his card. Maybe next year he'll get the concept.

Dress-ups and Lincoln Logs

Silje, Emma, and Tommy were playing with the Lincoln Logs and having a great time! Tommy didn't play dress-ups, but the girls did! It's fun to see kids playing toys we had when we were little.

My New Niece!

This is baby Liberty! She was born on September 11th, so her parents decided to name her Liberty! I think her name is almost as cute as she is!

First Day Of Kindergarten

Silje started kindergarten! She has been waiting and counting the days... the time has finally come! (I'm a little late posting this. I've tried a few times, but the computer is slow!) She has been to almost two weeks of school now and just loves it!

Labor Day BBQ

We went to a friend's house for a Brazilian churasco. It was so much fun!

Park City Weekend

We went up to Park City for a long weekend . It was a lot of fun. The kids keep asking when we are going back again! (Funny thing, we went back up to the Olympic Park for FHE on Monday!) Here we are, swimming away. That was the first thing the kids wanted to do in the morning and the last thing the kids wanted to do before getting ready for bed!

We went for a hike at the top of the mountain. The kids loved riding the gondola. Silje, "I can see the whole world!"

The kids were so tired at the end of each night! They just crashed (after watching High School Musical 1 and 2)

Tommy thought he should get to sleep in the master bedroom in the king sized bed. Little does he know he is only a prince! (Yes, his feet are black from running around! Down to the pool, back, down to one of my family's rooms, back, down to get treats, back, etc)
